[close] I have to downgrade this book because of the pervasive misogyny of the main character. The book is full of abuse and rape, and I found much of it offputting. If there were less of that I would have enjoyed this swampy foray into an alternative Africa. It follows (the misogynistic) "Tracker" who has been hired to find a long missing child. Though he usually works alone, Tracker ends up with a group, and the cast of characters and adventures are often enthralling, mixing African history and mythology. This is the first of three, not so sure I would read any others, at least it does not end with a major cliffhanger.
