It is possible to really admire a book without loving it, and I can attest that I felt that with The Overstory. The start of the book feels like a collection of short stories, several lives seem to be randomly described, and yet they all share some type of connection to trees. One family documents the fate of a sole chestnut tree (while the rest of the nation's chestnuts succumb to a fungus) over generations, another boy falls from a tree and becomes paralyzed, an American soldier in Vietnam is ...more
