[close] T.C. Boyle can make any subject interesting. In this long (and it feels it) book he writes about a scientific experiment that takes place in the 90's, where four men and four women have been chosen to live in a dome in E2, a facility designed to replicate a possible off earth colony. (This is based on a real failed experiment referred to as E1 that actually took place in the United States). Though it is mostly interesting I found it very drawn out, and it really becomes a soap opera. Missing is Boyle's usual humorous touch that can make tough topics and situations (read Tortilla Flats) more bearable. The other detriment to this book is the very obvious male point of view. Despite the fact that 2 of the 3 voices narrating the story are female, it comes across as a very warped male ideal of female friendships.
