I have never read a Martha Grimes book, so I do not know if ridiculous plots are her norm, but this book is the epitome of an unbelievable plot. It is not just the main plot (a physicist/gambler and his wife are murdered outside a museum/art gallery), but the side plots that are totally unrealistic. That said, I enjoyed her characters and their interactions. Apparently there is a whole series of Richard Jury mysteries, and I assume many of the players are in her other books, and the friends of J
