[close] The texture of this book is very bare-bones, almost like shorthand, or life-drawing sketches, but Hamid can reveal a character, a world in a single line. The story is about a young couple who meet and, perhaps, fall in love in a world of increasing war, migration, and technology. Hamid has said elsewhere that he thinks we are failing to imagine and articulate a future for ourselves. Whether or not you agree with his conclusions, Mohsin Hamid has certainly done that here; Exit West brings up serious questions and is beautifully written. Very worthwhile.
