The book begins with Kendra and Seth at home, just before summer break. A demon comes to their school and they become involved with a stranger to make him leave.
The stranger says that he is fighting the "Evening Star" and gets Seth to break into a funeral home to steal a relic, that will help preserve the Havens around the world. Seth is bitten by the relic, and it is later revealed that the statue will seek Seth until he is consumed.

I gave it 3 stars for the writing. The story is worthy of more. The kids think it's fabulous. They couldn't stand the slow pace of a read aloud and all read ahead on their own but demanded that finish reading aloud anyway.

Hurray! This volume of the series was much more interesting than the first one. I liked having more mystery in the plot and a twist at the end. Now I'm ready for volume three!
