Maisie is a detective during the 1920’s. She doesn’t use any far fetched tactics to deduce information. It was enjoyable read and the author did a good job building the characters but the experiences are not very detailed and the romantic relationship is sparse. I’m not one to rely on a heavy romantic theme but I wanted to learn more about it than just that they went to dinner.

A slower paced, thoughtful book. It is being compared to Alexander McCall Smith's, #1 Ladies Detective Agency. That has got to be good marketing, yes? I think I will continue on with the series, but not just yet.
Some decent quotes:

I read 64 pages of this book and thought it was mildly entertaining, but as I read on I got very involved with the characters. I loved the story and I loved how she ties everything up in the end. The only thing I didn't like about this book is that I wished for more details.
I would like to read all of her other books. I think she is a good writer. ...more

I was surprised by this book. Billed as a "detective" novel, I expected a faster pace, however, the story ended up having much more substance and heart along with a good mystery to solve. I'm looking forward to reading more Maisie Dobbs!!

A little slow getting all the background about Maisie, but interesting with a good story. I'll probably read more in the series.
