Wow! What a powerful story. I admit that it took to me a long time to get into the book. I kept reading it because it as a book that my daughter was also reading for school. The last few chapters are amazing! So much emotion in those chapters!! I loved all the twists and turns at the end and how the story finished. I also enjoyed reading the author's notes. I might even suggest reading those before reading the book. I had no idea that so much of the story is historically based.

I enjoy historical fiction, and I learned quite a bit from this one. An interesting time period, and well written, so it's easier for younger children to understand and relate. I enjoy books where the writing is able to be understood by the young audience it's intended for and yet does not talk down to nor is too simple for the age group.

Reading through Newberys. Forgot that I read this one but only b/c it's a calm book and slow enough to just pick up from time to time. Enjoyed the journey of the character.

A beautiful story about humanity, Korean culture in the 12th century, and the art of pottery.
