Reader thoughts: I shouldn't tell my husband about books I'm reading. I'm 2/3 into a book and summarize it for him and explain the poignant moment of the potter refusing to let the boy learn how to make pottery because the boy is NOT his son. My husband says, "Oh, so the potter will call him son by the end of the book." Well, um, that sounds obvious when you put it that way. But I wanted to be surprised!! Ah, well, it was still a great book. (And it didn't quite work out that way.)

I read this to my kids for school and felt it was one of the best read-aloud stories we have had. Crane Man was a joy. I want to sit with him and learn from his wisdom. Tree Ear speaks courage and makes me want to try harder. This book was wonderful!
I loved this book. The symbolism is great, and the story is well written and laced with good lessons of dedication, sense of family, and honor. It is the type of children's book I wish there were more of.

This is a beautiful fictional tale of a young Korean orphan and the kind and not-so-kind people in his life. He helps out a potter and hopes to learn the art. This is a quick read/listen. 4 stars!
A simple well-told story that not only explored the craft of fine ceramic art, but managed a moral tale to be remembered. Enjoyed the book very much.
I really liked this book! Easy read, great characters, and I learned a lot!
