3.5 stars. I liked this book, it was good. But I didn't love it. I didn't connect with it and feel a part of it. There isn't anything particularly wrong with it, but it just didn't grab me and pull me in like I was hoping. I learned a lot about this historical time period. Wow! What an ordeal. And I knew so little about the Yellow Fever epidemic. It was fascinating and heartbreaking. Wow! Fever 1793 weaves an incredible story of a teen girl surviving and growing from the harrowing events of the real Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia that killed one tenth of it's population just after the American Revolution! The book touches on so many issues surrounding the epidemic, not just the disease and death itself but the economic effects, class distinctions, race distinctions, politics, uncertainty, and selflessness. Really this book was compelling, enlightening, and inspiring.

I had no idea this went on in Philadelphia. I appreciated seeing the different ways people react to adversity and it's food for thought to think about how you would react in the situation. I can't imagine throwing a sick or dying family member out on the street to keep everyone else safe, but I have no idea what that kind of fear feels like.

Historical fiction with a great combination of plot and history! I would recommend it to tweens, teens, and adults. This novel helped me understand more about life during the awful time of Philadelphia's 1793 yellow fever epidemic, but it is not a depressing book.

An interesting historical fiction story. But I actually read it twice without realizing it, so I guess for me personally it wasn't that memorable of a book!
