What Members Thought

A fun book that is written very well for the age group that it pertains to. The main character is 15, but I think that the plot and even the way the main characters act makes me think that girls that are younger would enjoy this. I think it would be great for girls 9-13. The story is great, and the characters are lovable and easy to relate to. This seems to be realistic fiction with just a few fairy tale elements. I would recommend it to anyone girl/woman that's looking for a light read.

While the title did not draw me in, I read this book based on a recommendation from a friend and its Newberry Honor status. I'm so glad I did! It's a charming coming of age story--both for the main character and for the village where she lives. The fantasy elements only add to this books appeal.

I'm really enjoying reading Shannon Hale's books. She takes fairy tales and embellishes them. They're so fun to read. I especially enjoyed "The Princess Academy" with it's not so surprise ending.

I really liked this book! I'm quickly becoming a Shannon Hale fan. I ignored her books for a long time because they were labeled "Young Adult" but don't let that fool you. They're only categorized in the genre because they're clean! The story moved quickly and was a fun read. Don't overlook this one!

I thought this was a delightful story especially for elementary-aged girls. It was how I first discovered Shannon Hale, who I've enjoyed reading ever since.
