A fun book that is written very well for the age group that it pertains to. The main character is 15, but I think that the plot and even the way the main characters act makes me think that girls that are younger would enjoy this. I think it would be great for girls 9-13. The story is great, and the characters are lovable and easy to relate to. This seems to be realistic fiction with just a few fairy tale elements. I would recommend it to anyone girl/woman that's looking for a light read. ...more

While the title did not draw me in, I read this book based on a recommendation from a friend and its Newberry Honor status. I'm so glad I did! It's a charming coming of age story--both for the main character and for the village where she lives. The fantasy elements only add to this books appeal. ...more

Lovely book. I would definitely recommend this, especially to young girls who need to hear its message about the power of learning. The Princess Academy is another reason why Shannon Hale is one of my favorite authors. Hope to read this with my girls soon.

I really enjoyed the characters and setting of this book. I would recommend this as a great youth novel and a fun, light fantasy read for the rest of us as well.

Good, clean read. Unique story but moved a little slowly for my taste and lacked some substance.

I'm really enjoying reading Shannon Hale's books. She takes fairy tales and embellishes them. They're so fun to read. I especially enjoyed "The Princess Academy" with it's not so surprise ending.

I really liked this book! I'm quickly becoming a Shannon Hale fan. I ignored her books for a long time because they were labeled "Young Adult" but don't let that fool you. They're only categorized in the genre because they're clean! The story moved quickly and was a fun read. Don't overlook this one! ...more

I thought this was a delightful story especially for elementary-aged girls. It was how I first discovered Shannon Hale, who I've enjoyed reading ever since. ...more

Shannon Hale has a new fan! Her writing style is wonderful. Her metaphors and similes add so much color and understanding to the story. A good, clean book for all ages.
