It's not often that I give 5 stars to a book - especially an adult fiction one. But this one deserves it. I love survival stories, and this one has TWO survival stories in it. One physical, the other emotional. Just a fantastic read, start to finish. Only one swear word and zero sex. I can wholeheartedly recommend to all my friends. ...more

I have no idea how this book ended up on my want-to-read list, but I am glad it did. The book reminds me of an adult Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. (I haven't read Hatchet in years, so please don't judge me too harshly if you disagree.) I found the story engaging and easy to listen to. The narrator, George Newbern, does an excellent job. Also, it was clean- no language or sex scenes. The book even makes fun of Hollywood movies that

This took me forever to read, mostly because I have a newborn. I liked the story but it was hard to pick up and put down so much since I lost some of the feeling/momentum that way. If I'd read it under normal circumstances I probably would have rated it higher! ...more

This is a puzzling book to review. The ending had me twisting in every direction. I was mad then about to cry, then bored. When the main character Ben would talk in his "inspirational" emotional way I got really bored and would skim over it. (Ie. maybe glue takes time to dry. Maybe bones take time to mend. Maybe it okay that the mess I call me is in process.) bleh!
But the plot was so interesting that it kept me reading. I did not like when we would have to switch back in time to his childhood o

Libby. Based on true story. Very good book. I would never have made it out of the mountains.
