Went back and forth between a 4 and a 5 on this one. I actually started this book months ago, but had to return it to the library after only getting about a quarter to a third of the way through it. The story haunted me enough that I checked it back out, and once I started it again I couldn't put it down. The audiobook is done really well, BTW. Some of the horrors these children endured were absolutely heartbreaking, but I'm thankful that while the author definitely didn't gloss over them or shy

This story was written so beautifully that I wanted to cry and cheer and throw something. The characters, settings, the story lines...all masterfully penned.

Fantastic, engaging read. This story, held my attention, was engaging, and filled with emotion and raw human behavior. An eye opening novel that made me aware of the evil and wrong doings of adoption in this time period. But the way this book was written in telling the past story and concurrently telling the current story, where a bit of mystery and romance along the way and the one girls story touches at the heart strings.
