Wow! What a heart-wrenching story. It's hard to rate it 5 stars due to the subject matter, but the I loved the manner in which the story was told. I enjoyed how the author intertwined the 2 storylines, and she kept me guessing how they would be connected until the very end. What a sad story though! And to know that it was based on historical events. Hard to imagine! It's definitely a clean, good read for anyone who is looking for that type of book.

This is my kind of historical fiction. I like when a story takes me to a time and place in history that is hard to read about, but alleviates the discomfort by going back and forth with a present day or more recent story line that is connected to the historical one. In this one we learn about the practices of the Memphis Tennessee Children's Home Society and Georgia Tann who directed the adoption agency. At the time she was lauded as a savior to the children she served, but yea ...more

I like books that go back and forth between the past and present to unfold a mystery. This is one of those. I also liked that the author could write about horrible things that happened without giving so much detail that you leave it feeling sick too your stomach. It was all tastefully done and ended on a positive note.

This was an incredible book. While it it based on a horrific and unimaginable real-life event, she handled it beautifully with modern day weaved into the family mystery. I loved how she didn’t have have to describe in detail some of the abuses, but gave you enough to know what was happening. Brilliant.

This book centers around an orphanage near Mepmphis that would kidnap and sell poor children to wealthy families all over the country. This follows one family that had all of their children torn from them, placed in adoption and then sold.
