Great book that grabs the reader at the very beginning. I wish I had read the authors note before beginning the book; I was unaware that the Tennessee Children’s Home Society was a real place and that Georgia Tann is not a fictional character throughout the story. This is an engaging, and heartbreaking, story inspired by real lives.

I can't decide whether this book deserves four or five stars. The writing style wasn't the greatest... this story could have been better if the author had left out the cheap, modern romance novel aspect. Very interesting topic, but with juvenile writing. One of the main characters, Avery, was annoying (constant referrals to her affluent life made me want to roll my eyes), as well as boring. Oh so sad but yet so good. This one is a tear jerker! 😭 What a beautiful story!! So nice to read a really meaningful story that isn’t mucked up with language and innuendo. And we all need a little love story in the background. Wish I knew what happened next for these characters, now that I’ve come to love them ...

This book is heart wrenching and fascinating! If it weren’t So sad I’d read it again! It combines mystery, drama and southern charm in an interwoven tale of different people in different generations. It is partially historical fiction loosely based on real places with at least one real character. Lisa Wingate is a fantastic writer! I loved discovering the mystery of the past along with Avery and Trent!
