Another unforgettable book. This is historical fiction set in 1939 Memphis, Tennessee. Again, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
I liked it and it was so interesting to hear about a piece of history, I had not heard about. I had never heard of Georgia Tann prior to this and based on the little I have read about this after the book, the author did a really good job integrating fictional characters into a real story. I have a hard time understanding how people, especially the women in this story, can be so heartless, cruel, evil & full of greed. I had no idea that this horrific thing took place in the early to mid 1900s. My heart broke for these families and children that were torn apart by the evil and greed filled intentions of a couple of women.
This was such a painful and riveting story. So hard to believe that this was going on in America all those years. It was eye opening and caused me to reflect on the value of family bonds over the years.
Such a compelling story! I was stunned to learn that what happened to some of these characters actually did happen to hundreds or even thousands of children and families.
Really enjoyed this book. Highly recommend the audiobook version. It was great!
I give Rill’s story 4-stars, but Avery’s story only 2.5.
