A very sad tragedy happened during the 1930's to 1950. During this time, children were taken from their families in the state of Tennesse and then readopted out to wealthy people. Most of the children taken were from poor circumstances. Their parents were duped into signing papers that basically signed away their parental rights. This is historical fiction about the Tennessee Children’s Home. I didn’t know anything about it before starting this book. Horrible things happened to children there, so some may not want to read this. It did just make me sick at times, but was such a good book that I really wanted to finish it. Nothing is detailed but you know what has happened. Not all of the book took place in the children’s home— probably less than 1/3, so it isn’t as bad as I might be making it sound. I loved this book. I loved the jump back and forth between the present and the past. This can be classified as Historical Fiction and the practice that is highlighted in the book is astonishing and horrifying. It’s unbelievable, but I enjoy learning through a mix of fiction. It was well written and had strong characters. I’d highly recommend it!

This book was so hard to read because it is based on true events, but it was also riveting. It was heart-breaking, horrible, and oh so beautiful. The prose were evocative at times and lovely to read, especially when it came to the relationship between the sisters. Worth reading, but it isn't easy to process.
