I read this book as a kid and really liked it.
I re-read this book because I discovered it's actually the first in a series I never knew about so I had to refresh my memory before starting book two.
Upon re-reading this book as an adult I can clearly see it's simplistic nature, but that is to be expected for the audience it was written to. I still very much enjoyed the book and it's thought provoking premise of whether choices and individuality are worth the consequences.

I've always thought this book was amazing. What really stood out to me this time as I read it, was the importance of learning through history. I liked this quote by the Giver when he is talking about memories he says, "I re-experience them again and again. It is how wisdom comes. And how we shape our future." Also...

I liked this book but really would have like this book more if the author wouldn't have ended so abruptly. At least that's what I thought. I think she started to talk about the importance of agency but didn't take it to the next level like she could have.

I bought this at a garage sale awhile back and now that my book club is reading it, I have the perfect excuse to read it! I'm looking forward to this one.
