Super predictable and not quite as magical as I was expecting. The pacing was excruciatingly slow. It had its moments, but overall, a bit of a disappointment. I am looking forward to the movie, however; Tom Hanks will be the perfect Ove.

What a shame it took me so long to read this. It’s a very lovely story, with such surprising moments of humor throughout.

I started Ove a few years, but the themes of suicide in the book kept me from finishing it until last night. I'm sorry that I dragged it out for so long! What a great book! This is one of the most heartwarming books I've read in a long time. It's not often that a book brings me to tears, but this one did it and kept me up reading until way past my bedtime! I am so glad that I circled back! ...more

I really lOVEd this book! I can't even explain why exactly. But I absolutely adored the main character and the pregnant lady next door with the name I can't remember. Ove reminds me SOOOOO much of some grumpy old (and not so old) men in my life (who I happen to love). His rationale and way of thinking makes perfect sense to him and he can't see why everyone else can't just do it his way. I laughed out loud so many times in this book. It was a delightful and heartwarming story that touched me on ...more

I really enjoyed the writing style. I found myself laughing out loud but also near tears at different points throughout. I actually relate with Ove quite a bit: stubborn, old fashioned, everything is black and white, logical, etc.. I wouldn't call this a love story, per se, but it is definitely a story about love. Love with neighbors, friends, students, teachers, husbands, wives, parents, children...and I loved that. ...more

This is a great book about a crotchety old man who has lost his purpose in life. He spends him time trying to make everyone follow the HOA rules. He also attempts suicide. His wife had died and now he feels ready to join her.

A friendly neighbor moves in with her husband and children. She asks for his help and he tries to refuse, but she is so kind and her husband is inept at the handy things, so Ove feels like he has to help her. It ends up giving him purpose and he changes from a grump to an en

I would have given this 5 stars, but there was a lot of language in it. I gained a lot of insight from it and will view the curmudgeons in my life differently from now on.

Read as part of book club. I laughed (which is a miracle in itself) and cried. Loved this book. One thing let it down for me was the swearing.

It took a little bit to get into but then I loved it! My kids kept asking me what I was laughing about. There are so many great lines in this one. There is great character evolution and I love all of Ove's neighbors - I want them for my own. ...more

The character development is amazing. Wish i could move to this street. So much compassion for people and all the quirks that come with being human. Quote a bit of language.
