What a delightful book! Ove is a curmudgeon through and through, and all of us (at least over a certain age) can identify with his grumbles and gripes and irritations. I enjoyed seeing Ove unbend and open up in spite of himself. Cried at the end, and was glad I wasn't reading it in public.

My teenage son gave me this book for Christmas, not knowing it had been on my to-read list forever. He said he just thought I would like it. One of those rare experiences where I couldn't put the book down and didn't want it to end. Wisdom, humor, sorrow, and surprise. It provides a compelling look at aging and loneliness. It provides an incidental insight into the intrusive bureaucracy that arises from a socialistic government. This is an exquisite piece.

I have heard people rave about this book, so I was excited to read it. While I liked the book, I couldn't get over the overtly curmudgeoness of Ove. I think maybe if I had listened to the book, like some of my friends recommended, I would have liked it more. It ends up being a feel-good book, but not until the very end. There were really great characters though, all very well placed and portrayed.

PRONOUNCED “Ooo-Vuh”. There, now you know so you can stop mispronouncing it! 😂 Don’t worry, I started by reading it on my own, then switched to the audiobook to find I’d been mispronouncing his name the entire first half of the book. 🙄🤪
