This was a beautiful, romantic retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I am actually quite partial to the Disney movie, but this was so much better. I haven't read the original French version since High School (in English, from France, not in French. I didn't like that one very much. This is my favorite! This is a sweet retelling of Beauty and the Beast. As I was reading this, I felt so familiar, and then I realized that I had read this when I was a wee lass! It's a beautiful (no pun intended) story about a class love story.

I really, really enjoyed this book. I may even say 4.5 stars. I've never read the original, so I can't compare. My experience with the story is Disney and Hello Kitty Furry Tail Theater (yep, in my house full of boys). The characters were lovable but not perfect, the story was fun and magical, the setting was beautiful to all the senses. The only complaint I had was the abrupt ending.
