Wow. I so thought I'd added this book ages ago. It, along with Hero and the Crown, were some of the first fantasy I'd ever read, besides Lady Knight, which is weird because it's the fourth of a quartet. Anyway.
The biggest thing I remember about this book is the first page, because the character has orange juice, and I'd never read about orange juice in a book before, a FANTASY book no less. It was kind of strange, the whole magic in the blood and prophecies and sword fighting on horses and Corla ...more

quite possibly my favorite book since 'the hunger games.' and that is a BIG compliment.

Wow, this took me FOR-EV-ER to read. I was busy busy with girls camp, but the book was slow paced which didn't help me want to finish it.
It was an alright book. I love some of the author's other books, but as I stated above, it was hard to read because I would start falling asleep after 10 minutes of reading because it just couldn't hold my attention. Plus, on the cover it says its a romantic story, but there is literally zero romance until the last ten pages. I need a bit more then that. This w ...more

This book was refreshingly terse. Harry felt like a real person, a pragmatic and strong girl, adapting quickly to her new surroundings.
It was a magical adventure, but the tone of the book felt very real, a little understated, like it really could be happening.
It was very engaging, quick paced, and fun to read. I really enjoyed it.

I will be reading more from Robin McKinley. I really enjoy her writing style and imagination. I feel like I'm reading a classic while reading her books, well, the two I've read, rather than a modern fantasy that tries too hard. I'm glad I read The Hero and the Crown before I read The Blue Sword, although The Blue Sword was written first. The Hero and the Crown comes first in storytelling time and reading it first helped me understand names, places and events that The Blue Sword refers to. I don'

2 and a half. I don't think I would have read this book if it wasn't for our book group this month. I just could never get excited or interested in it or the characters. It took me FOREVER to read less than 250 pp!! I really like Beauty by the same author, so I was surprised.

Loved it. Very satisfying classic-style fantasy, as most of Robin McKinley's are for me. I also like The Hero and the Crown, which is sort of a prequel, but not as much due to a scene of immorality.

LOVE this book. Haven't read it since I was a teenager, loved it all over again.

I don't usually love fantasy, but my mother, who has impeccable taste, read it for book club and loved it, so I'll probably give it a try someday.
