I love books, and I love books about books, so I was very excited to read this one - the story of girl whose father has a "talent" for literally bringing books to life with the sound of his voice. Through this gift, however, her mother has disappeared and a dangerous villain has been unleashed on modern-day Europe.
The story was good, despite being somewhat convoluted at times. The characterization was also very complex and effective. I never really loved Mo as much as I wished I did, but Meggie ...more

I really enjoyed this book. It was quite different than what I had expected. It was a nice thick book that actually took me almost a week to read (since I only read when I'm feeding Peter), which was nice because all the other books I've read lately have only been a day or two.
But, back to the book. I haven't seen the movie, so had no expectations. But I loved that it was about people who passionately love books! :) I enjoyed the twists and turns (even if they were fairly predictable) and found ...more

I did not like this book. It was an intriguing premise--to be able to read characters out of books and into our world. But it is poorly written. The characters are two-dimensional. The parental figures regularly lie and use foul language. Overall the mood is very dark for a children's book.
I read most of the first half, and then skimmed the rest. I was disappointed. It had won so many awards--I thought it would be a good book. But it's not.

This is now my favorite fantasy book. I read this in about a day and a half and it's got over 500 pages. I couldn't put it down.
One of my favorite things about the book are the quotes from other books at the beginning of each chapter. Also, the author really captured the heart of an avid reader in her descriptions of books and how they conjure up such strong feelings.
I can't wait to read the other two books in the trilogy. ...more

This is one of my favorite movies, but this is one of those rare occasions that I didn't like the book as much. It's a great story, but I think the people who made the movie added even more fun and imagination to it. I am interested in reading the second book.
