What Members Thought

A couple of years ago I checked out the audio version of this book from my local library. I was in the middle of Spring deep cleaning and I thought I could multi-task, read a book and clean. Turns out that I am not a good multi-tasker. I did hear enough that I knew this was a book that I wanted to hold in my hands and read. I immediately purchased a copy and let it sit on my shelf for far too long.

Reader thoughts: I loved all the problems Azalea faced. She was assaulted on every side: magical, romantic, patriarchal, and financial. She had to deal with a curse, deal with unwanted suitors, deal with an unloving father, and deal with being a penniless princess. She had to take care of her eleven younger sisters (and I thought 3 siblings was plenty!) and heal from grief over her mother's death and handle being Princess Royale.

I had expected a much more juvenile novel that this turned out to be. I guess I need to redefine 'young.' I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm smiling just trying to remember the names of all the princesses, you would think it would be easy, they're in alphabetic order and named after flowers, but I can't. I also thought the story would be predictable; it wasn't at all. There were some plot twists I wasn't expecting and I loved her use of language It was such a great audio that I bought a copy fo

A 3.5 for me. Sadly, I think much of my reaction to this book is a result of the book I read directly before it (which was an amazingly crafted piece of literature), so it isn't entirely its fault...but still, I feel like I need to report how I honestly felt.
As the story began, I found myself sighing, rolling my eyes, and generally put off by the level of writing (quite repetitive), the dialogue, and even the characters themselves. But I'd had it recommended to me by several people so I endured. ...more

My sister gave me this book and I couldn't put it down. It's written by a local author. I finished it in two days. It's the story of the 12 Dancing Princesses and the retelling is very entertaining. The typical problem witht the heroin makes me crazy--she keeps falling, fainting, and getting wet. Maybe once or twice is normal, but so often? That's my only complaint. I very much enjoyed the story otherwise. Definitely read it!

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy but this still enjoyed this book, my friends who enjoy fairy tales turned into novels will probably really enjoy it. It was definitely engaging and it was fun to see how she including the dancing throughout the story.
