This book was cute and quirky and basically a female Sherlock Holmes of sorts. But for me it was incredibly slow especially the middle giving the back story of Maisie. It wasn't until they started solving the case that it picked up more. And the surprise reveal at the end was a little disappointing in the fact that I was disappointed in Maisie after everything you've seen her do and how amazing she is. My mother loved these kind of mysteries - British were her faves. I remember her reading this series for a bit. So when she passed away and I needed a book for a long road trip by myself, I purchased this on audible. I was entertained by it. I think the third book is my favorite.
I had to look up when this book was published. It really felt like it could have been written in the early ‘30s with its authentic feel of the past. I liked this introductory mystery into the series well enough to want to keep reading more of the books.
I loved loved this book. A woman detective in the late 1920's in England has to revisit her past as a nurse during WW1 to solve a case. Can't wait to read the others. Clean.

An enjoyable read, with a rich historical sections, a plot that tugs at your heartstrings, and some mystery as well.
