I’m not sure why, but I didn’t have high expectations for this book, however I was pleasantly surprised. This was a fun book to read with characters that were relatable and a plot that was somewhat guessable, but had a few twists. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Although Maisie Dobbs certainly falls into the mystery genre, it is much more than that. Like Alexander McCall Smith's 'No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency,' it is really just a wonderfully well-executed exploration of a particular time and place, using the mystery framework of order-from-chaos as its platform.

Loved the characters and the time period. Great story and well written. Very clean for those of my friends who would avoid otherwise.
Quick enjoyable read about a female detective in Britain and the aftermath of WWI.
Ehh. I was not overly impressed with this book. It had a good story line I just think it took a little long to get there. It was clean and no language so I appreciated that.
It was kind of slow to get in to- but boy, the end makes up in excitement! Clean book, no language or shady content and that is WONDERFUL and refreshing to read!!
3.5 stars. This was a decent historical fiction novel. As a mystery, it was mediocre. Maybe the next in the series is better.
I enjoyed this- I was expecting more of a mystery. I will be reading the next one.
