I took this book to read while backpacking over the weekend because it is small and easily fit in my pack. I had read it before at about 11 or 12 years old and it is still a great book! I love the main characters courage and determination. I wanted to be her when I was younger, and I still seek adventure as an adult. I'm excited to hand it over to my 11 year old to read!

3.5 stars. A fun, fast-moving juvenile fiction story with some delightful characters and exciting plot turns. I have to say that I am not a huge fan of stories that take place on ships. This might sound silly, but I get bogged down in all the ship lingo: main topgallant sail, flying jib, bowsprit, uhhhhhh....what? It was fun to read this book. It opened my eyes to the larger world out there. I was surprised by the ending and what her family treated her.
I had a good time reading this with my 14 year old. Full of adventure and intrigue. I had read it before but it was just as good the second time round.
Any easy read that provokes thought. What would you did in the same situation? Do you judge her b/c of her choices? I enjoyed it.
