An extraordinary work of narrative journalism, The Devil's Highway tells the true story of 30 immigrants who attempted to cross the Mexico-U.S. border, and were abandoned by their mercenary guide in the middle of southern Arizona desert's brutal summer heat. Urrea's writing is poetic and captivating, his voice shining through like a beacon in an otherwise devastating story. This book broke my heart and touched my soul.
