The story, Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor is an excellent mystery! It felt like Jane wrote the book herself! According to the Editor’s Foreword that’s what it is, manuscripts written by Jane Austen, and edited by Stephanie Barron. I do not know if this is true or part of the story, but I enjoyed the story immensely!

Though it was nice to read a book that featured Jane Austen as the main character, I could not get into this series. I had read the first two or three several years ago, about the same time that I also read Pamela Aidan's trilogy, and did not want to go any further into Stephanie Barron's series. Unfortunately, this is all that I remember about these books.

I enjoyed this book. Admittedly, I got a little bored in some parts, but overall I enjoyed it. I loved how she channeled the writing style of Jane Austen. I also think the entire concept, using actual letters of Jane, to create a story is brilliant. I found the mystery intriguing, and it really felt like I connected with Jane. I will definitely check out book number 2.
