Cassandra Clare, you have done it again. This book was nothing short of amazing and it lived up to all my expectations while waiting a whole year for it! Without any spoilers, I'll just say that I love this series. TID and the shadowhunter world in general. I am so very excited to read the dark artifices and any other books Clare decides to put out! I feel like I'm reliving the feelings I had for the Infernal Devices ending, but I have never cried for any character or book as much as I have for William Herondale. Honestly, this book was so hard for me to keep up on. I took so many breaks and got bored so easily. I even had a few days away from it. The ending brought so many feelings for me though. But here are my feelings on people/events that are in this book. Warni OKAY. I think I'm ready to talk about the damage this book has done to me. I feel like I'm reliving the feelings I had for the Infernal Devices ending, but I have never cried for any character or book as much as I have for William Herondale. Honestly, this book was so hard for me to keep up on. I took so many breaks and got bored so easily. I even had a few days away from it. The ending brought so many feelings for me though. But here are my feelings on people/events that are in this book. Warning: It's all out of context.

(view spoiler)[First off, I love Emma Carstairs. She is so great already and as for female lead characters, (which I consider her to be one) she's one of the few that I love...EVER. She reminds me so much of Izzy. A headstrong Shadowhunter who fights because it's in her blood and for the protection of the people she cares about. Don't get me wrong, I have positive thoughts about Clary, but I find that she tries too hard to be the hero. Like I get a feeling that she sacrifices herself for attention and so that people have a reason to think she's more important than what she really is. Her and Jace. Especially in this book. Anyways back to Emma. I love her and Jules. I love their bond and can't wait to hear about them being parabati in the Dark Artifices. I was so heartbroken when she started thinking of how she could never be in a relationship with Jules and I hope that there will soon be some law breaking and something will happen. After all she thinks that rules were meant to be broken or bent. Her POV honestly motivated me to keep reading this book. And Brother Zachariah. Speaking of Brother Zachariah....... I was so excited to see (or read) that JEM CARSTAIRS IS BACK!! I wanted so badly for him to tell about his past and who he really is, but Cassandra Clare said she kept his identity sort of hidden for the people who hasn't read The Infernal Devices. That's understandable, but I wanted to read about so many secrets and unknown stories unravel. Especially JACE AND TESSA. She's his great grandmother for goodness sake. I wish she would tell him now. And we better hear about it in TDA. And as for Maia and Jordan, I felt pretty bad and actually disliked Maia for a while. But hey, she couldn't change the way she felt just because he died. But when she killed Rufus Hastings guy, that was pretty badass.

Throughout the story, I began to like Alec a little more and appreciate him as a person. I never disliked him or anything, but this book brought him to my attention more than the others. Besides when he came out. I loved the determination he had to get Magnus and I felt a little bad for him because in all of the other books he kind of comes off as an asshole, but we get a more bonding and emotional side of him with the others. I also felt bad for the fact that while everyone else is making out with the ones they love, he is fighting to save the one he loves and is a little left out while they are traveling to get to Sebastian. I got tired of Clary and Jace, but I'm not going to lie, the cave scene was something I've been hoping for. (I'm not a perv I swear). And Simon and Izzy! I've loved them from the start and their relationship made me happy and towards the Simon incident, hurt me as well. I can't believe Cassandra Clare wiped out Simon's memories of the Shadowhunter world. I was literally crying every time they brought up Simon afterwards. Especially for Izzy who is so strong and doesn't let her guard down. She was heart broken by the boy she loved and who saved her life. We better hear about them and their shadowhunter lives later. And I seriously thought that Jonathan was going to be able to live after Clary killed Sebastian and we would have all been happy. I just hope we get more resolutions in the next series. This book's conclusion tore me apart. Even when they pretty much said fuck you to Helen and Mark just because they have fairie blood in them. And I can't wait to hear about Emma. I love her. I'm glad Clare gave us a good first impression of her. (hide spoiler)] ...more

Even though I found myself enjoying this (maybe because I just missed them so much), I think it could've been shorter and could've been more epic. It felt like one of those books that could be placed in the middle of a series. (Well technically it was, since TDA is a direct sequel to this). Also, I found myself not caring for other characters and what happens to Idris in particular, except for Simon, Isabelle, Alec and Zachariah (He's not even a main character) and a little bit for Magnus, but y Even though I found myself enjoying this (maybe because I just missed them so much), I think it could've been shorter and could've been more epic. Also, I found myself not caring for other characters and what happens to Idris in particular, except for Simon, Isabelle, Alec and Zachariah (He's not even a main character) and a little bit for Magnus, but you see, when you find yourself not caring for the established main heroes of the story or the main point of the plot, then clearly, I think there's something wrong.

Also, I get it that it is essential to introduce the main characters for TDA to build some kind of attachment for them, but I think this is sort of a cowardly move on the writer's part, and the introduction of these characters were kind of forced and lengthened the book. It was unnecessary or was too much. Well, I don't know. That much background story was not needed in my opinion. It can be easily integrated into TDA. If you can't create a stand alone series that doesn't depend on a previous series for character development then you obviously have a problem. Also, I think the death count was kind of low. I'm not a sadist or maybe I am, I don't know, but it felt unrealistic. Also, I found myself skipping parts because it was boring or petty or both and was more excited for Simon or Zachariah to appear again. lol. Especially when it was Jace's or Clary's POV. Clary, Jace's prettiness is not relevant to the story and will not save anybody's life.

What I didn't expect though was that I would be devastated so much（I WAS BAWLING AT 4 AM IN THE MORNING!). So much more devastated compared with the Will-Jem-Tessa predicament (and that hurt). All I can say is that I LOVE SIMON SO MUCH. I never was a Jace fan. I was always a Simon fan. Oh my God. Simon broke me, and Izzy. UGH. I just love these two so much. Reading this made me want to read the short stories for Simon, i'm just scared that it would suck donkeyballs like the Bane Chronicles. I stopped reading that collection of short stories after reading three stories which didn't made a lot of impact. So i'm scared that by reading Simon's short stories, I would be disappointed. I just love Simon that much. UGH.

I still prefer this series end with City of Glass. It was more concise and more appropriate. But this book was worth it, because Chapter 23. This book should've been a near 2 stars rating but I just can't make myself give it 2 stars simply because of Chapter 23. Also, Cassie's writing improved a lot by the way. haha.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention one aspect of this series that I really liked. The politics aspect of the series. The Clave itself. It's kind of pretty cool. I hope Cassie focuses more on this aspect next time.
