Like the previous books, I know whats going to happen so I wasn't too invested but some things caught me by surprised. This novel starts the second trilogy of The Mortal Instuments though I still feel it would have been fine with just the City of Glass.

A few months have passed and Simon is casually dating Isabelle and Maia. While out on a date, two vampires ask him to meet their master, he goes thinking its Raphael but soon finds out its Camille, who wants to join forces to defeat Raphael. Simon says he will think about it, and agrees not to say anything to anyone.

Jace has been having nightmares about killing Clary which causes him to be distant from her. Clary has been training with Jace but notices that something is wrong.

Meanwhile, Alec and Magnus are on vacation, but return when Camille gets captured by the Shadowhunters when its learned that she has been killing former Circle members. And will only talk to Magnus, when Alec finds out that Magnus use to date Camille, he starts question their future causing a rift between them.

Also, Jocelyn notices that someone has been trying to recreate more Sebastian, a being that has angel and demon blood, but the babies keep dying.

With so much going on, its no wonder the plot goes from one character to the other. Which I didn't mind. I enjoyed the book for what it was. I also enjoyed the little twist at the end.

Lilith who was the first wife of Adam, is trying to resurrect Sebastian who she considers to be her son, hence it is his demon blood that runs though his veins. In order to do that, she needs Simon, who can bring people back with his Daylighter blood and Jace who disturbed the balance when Clary wished for him to return. After tricking Jace with a dream of Max, she has an influenced rune on him, for she has been the one that has been sending him the dreams.

Amist all this, this the new character of Kyle who is the new singer of the band with Simon and is also the ex boyfriend of Maia. She later learns that he was not aware of him becoming a werewolf when he starting to abuse her and bit her and he feels really remorseful about it and is trying to make amends. After defeating Lilith with the Mark of Cain while she was hitting Clary, they believe that the ritual is over, but when everyone leaves to inform the Clave of what they know, Jace stays behind on the roof where Sebastian's coffin is, and notices that the rune that Clary disfigured earlier has now healed. Hearing Sebastian's voice is his head, he is now under the control of him, and completes the ritual.

The ending was great. A really good cliffhanger.

My only issue with the novel was COMMUNICATION. Jace didn't want to tell Clary about his nightmares causing her to think he didn't love her anymore. Simon didn't communicate to either Isabelle or Maia about him seeing them both knowing that he was wrong. No one communicated that the other was in trouble in anyway. Cause everyone was eventually met at the church where the members were worshippers of Lilith. Simon didn't tell Isabelle about him feeding from Maureen who is a big fan of the band and has a crush on Simon. The relationships dynamic of the this novel made everything so frustrating.

Rant over. Besides that, I enjoyed the second half of the novel where the climax started to ending.

I cant wait to read the Clockwork Prince and City of Lost Souls. ...more
