City of Glass is the third book of the Mortal Instruments series. After the events of City of Ashes, Clary is trying to accept that she and Jace are brother and sister and that the guy has decided to stay that way despite she knows he has lingering feelings for her. What she feels for him is great but it is also wrong, considering their bond. So Clary tries to move on and wants to join Jace and his family to a trip to Idris, the city of shadowhunters. City of Glass is the third book of the Mortal Instruments series. After the events of City of Ashes, Clary is trying to accept that she and Jace are brother and sister and that the guy has decided to stay that way despite she knows he has lingering feelings for her. What she feels for him is great but it is also wrong, considering their bond. So Clary tries to move on and wants to join Jace and his family to a trip to Idris, the city of shadowhunters. She wants to see where her mother was born and is excited for the trip. She is the only one though. Jace isn't of the same advice and enlists Simon to help him keep Clary from coming, which at the end happens. Clary is left behind but thanks to her power, she can draw a rune to open a portal for Idris and reach her friends. Once she is teleported to the hidden city, a new series of events happens and a war between shadowhunters and her biological father Valentine, is approaching.

If I were to describe this book, I would say one word. Engaging.

Compared to the previous two, City of Glass is rarely slow. Just to be clear, not that City of Bones or City of Ashes were slow. But they had a couple of moments where nothing much happened, compared to City of Glass. Anyway. I could not stop reading if not to eat, sleep, duties, and meet with my friends. The plot was finally widening and giving answers to questions that were first asked in the first book. The tone was a little darker but it was right to be. Shadowhunters were expecting a war and were tense, with all the deaths that we have in this book. The end kind of felt like a real ending of the series even though it wasn't. But I think the calm after the storm is only apparent.

(view spoiler)[There were new characters in this book. Sebastian is one of them. When he is presented, as a fascinating, black headed/eyed guy, I would have thought he would be like a new Simon, fighting for Clary's heart against Jace who was completely opposite to him - since like it's obvious the main couple of a book must suffer before they get their happy ending. This, by the way, if I wasn't spoiled. I knew who Sebastian was before, in the middle of the book, showed his true colors. He scares me a little, in ways that Valentine's character didn't. Sebastian, or is better if we call him Jonathan, is Clary's real blood brother and half demon. He is truly evil, and even his father had noticed it and that is why he didn't experiment angel's Ithuriel blood on Clary and Jace the same way he did with his first born. I wonder if there is a way to kill him since he is a demon, or he is completely invincible. We'll see.

Another new character is Aline Penhallow. She is the daughter of a couple who controls an institute in Beijing. She appeared a little shallow and slutty in the beginning. She wanted Jace's hands all over herself and he also flirted with her. When Clary arrives in Alicante, she sees Aline kissing Jace when she first sees him. But that was just a façade. Aline seems like a mysterious girl, enigmatic. Hopefully she is in the next book too so I can find out more about her.

Like I said few lines ago, lots of answers were given. We found out why Clary and Jace weren't brother and sister despite Jace was raised by Valentine. Jocelyn explained her part of the story and why she hid who she was to Clary. We discovered why Clary, Jace, Simon and Jonathan were sort of special beings - and why Jonathan is half demon. We found out what Valentine wanted to do with the Mortal Instruments. And bla bla bla.

Now. To repeat myself again, the ending left us as if nothing was left to explain anymore. Every couple besides Simon and Isabelle, seemed happy and blessed of their future without Valentine. But even if I didn't know there was a fourth book, I would say that the last five pages were indicating that there may be some sort of vendetta awaiting for the shadowhunters and Jace and Clary in particular. Nobody found Jonathan's body anywhere, even if Jace told his presumed father that he had killed him. This doesn't mean he wandered around Idris and then died because of the wounds he received (he must have a hand cut, mustn't he). I believe Jonathan to be very powerful and impulsive. No one knows what move he will do to get revenge, but I'm sure he will surprise everyone but not Clary and Jace, who are aware he is still sadly alive. Plus, there's that talk Clary has with Queen Seelie. In a way, is like the queen is warning her. She wants her to waver her feelings for Jace now that they know their relationship is not 'forbidden'. I suspect that if the faeries don't get what they want, things between shadowhunters and other creatures may complicate again.
