This is not a review that might interest people wanting to know about the book. This is a summary of my relationship with it.
The first time I heard of The Woman in White was while reading a Jasper Fforde novel, one in the Thursday Next series. Which, if you haven't read them yet, I highly recommend. In the book, I can't say for sure which one, was a scene with Thursday and two other Thursdays that were completely different from her. You'll understand when/if you read them, trust me. One night Walter Hartright, a drawing master, encounters a mysterious woman on the lonely road to London. However he tries, he can’t rid his mind of her haunting memory. Who is this woman? Why does she keep appearing and disappearing? What is the Secret she holds?

Right up front - this is not going to be a book you'll enjoy if you get at all impatient with characters pondering "what does it mean" and going into lengthy reveries, even when they're in the process of revealing the Big Secret. Collins seems to adore teasing the reader by drawing things out. (To be fair, it's a serial, so that happens.) It may also take some patience here and there to put up with the extreme (perhaps excessive) goodness of the hero and heroine. There were quite a few times I w

Good grief this book is long. A case of why use one word when 20 will do. While the story is really thrilling- twists and turns on every page right from the start, I felt it could have been said in about half the time. The story is really descriptive and easy to imagine. A horrible case of switched identities, and family secrets- and even an Italian mob. What else could you ask for?
...more
