I'm a sucker for sensation novels and this being considered the first one was bound to entertain me and it definitely did. It loses out on the 5-star rating because it had a few slow sections amidst the considerable length. But Marian Halcombe is pretty much the greatest character ever and the section with her narration was my favorite. ...more

My first "Classic" that I've ever read, I think. It was really good and could have been written yesterday, not 150 years ago. It did take me a looooong time to read. Not a reflection on Mr Collins. I hope to read another of his books soon.
