I love love love love love loved this book!
I have one minor quibble but it's a spoiler, so if you have read it, let's discuss!
I kind of like this better than Lord of the Rings. Bilbo is cool.
Other things are cool in this also, but they are spoilers.
Um... What else?
Gandalf is in this.
And... monsters.
And Beorn is fun, whoever that is (no spoilers)

sci-fi-fanasty-dystopian
the hobbit is the prequal to the lord of the rings and I think it is a good place to start. The pacing in the first third o fthe book is pretty slow but soon it becomes a very enjoyable read.
