It was an interesting book but so different from the film (or what I remember of the film). It's a lot darker and she is more involved with crime, and while she is still quirky the book version is ruder and less likeable or redeeming.

Holly is a horrid selfish creature. Capote never said who the character was based on. I think she is based on a male prostitute. The child bride part didn't fit to the rest of the story. It's like the author threw that in to make Holly more "female." Every description of Holly is boyish.
The other stories in the book are much better.
Nonetheless, I think the whole book of short stories is worth reading. All written before fame and excess living eroded his amazing talent as a writer. ...more

This was beautiful. I loved the way he built the character and how real it felt without being boring. It didn't feel overdone it was ... just right.
