Not as great a books as I imagined it to be.
Nevertheless, a quick read.
This short novel is all about a free spirit named Holly Golightly, who can never be committed to a person or a place. The narrator meets her when she comes as one of the tenants of his dragon of a landlady. Holly has no qualms in disturbing people at any time of day and night, she has lots of men friends, and she has no inhibitions.

Holly Golightly is my favorite woman character in all literature. You cannot at least like her if you read this book.

Wow. Truman Capote sure can write. This is a beautifully wrought story, but "wistful" is certainly the word. The characters are complex and flawed and yearning.

I thought, based on the movie, that it would be lighter, sillier, happier. It is not any of that, but it is perfectly done as it is (the movie, turns out, takes annoying liberties, IMHO; and WHO thought Andy Rooney as an ethnic caricature was a good idea? Ick).

Confession: I have never seen the movie. But when I think of Audrey Hepburn, I think of the iconic image of her portraying Holly Golightly. The story felt frivolous at times, but there is something charming about Holly's frivolous, care-free, naive personality. ...more
