I'm having trouble with the whole "how many stars" question. Here's the thing, I came into this novel knowing that it was a difficult subject. However,for some reason, the ages were not what I had the impression they would be. This made it much more difficult than I expected it to be. Perhaps my main issue is the maternal instinct that kept screaming for action in my head.

Harder to get through than I thought. Maybe it's because all I've been reading lately is YA books, but I don't think so. Because he was so averse to using bad or sexual language, I had a little bit of a hard time figuring out exactly what was happening. Anyway. A very good book - amazingly written in a memoir style, though it is not autobiographical. I do hope I never have to teach it, though.
