Having tried Henry James a decade ago and found his writing really dense, I approached A Portrait of a Lady with trepidation. Oh yes, this novel was just as wordy, but this time I had a much greater appreciation for the amazing use of language on James's part. My first thought on finishing this book was 'PHEWF glad that's over' because trust me, this takes ages to read! But, that doesn;t mean I didn't enjoy it, I really did like it, it's just a long journey of a book.
Most of the way through it I had very mixed ideas, I mean, yes Isabel is nice enough, but is she really amazing as everyone else (and herself, tbh) thinks? I'm not so sure!
