Well, first and foremost, this is not a Disney movie!
The title is a misnomer. The original French title is Notre Dame de Paris and the cathedral itself is the star of this show. The unfortunate hunchback is only in maybe a third of the scenes.
I actually wept at the end of Hugo's Les Misérables ...the book not the musical...so I was expecting the same level of brilliance and connection. It didn't happen. This story was sad and violent and just so terribly unfair, but the characters did not touch ...more

I really did love this story...although I was confused by why Hugo spent so many pages on so much historical detail of the city of Paris and even on Notre Dame, itself. I am sure if I put just a little more effort into it...perhaps reading the novel again...I would see how he used these things as types of the characters in the novel. A great novel that it is another great example of romanticism, as most works of Victor Hugo. I liked very much that the book is a glimpse into 15th century Paris and it's inhabitants. Pierre Gringoire was the character I liked most.

I really did enjoy this book, and I'm so glad I finally read it. It wasn't like my beloved Les Miserables and seemed overly long in certain parts (where Les Mis did not) but I loved it nonetheless.
