This book is another classic I either missed reading or missed understanding as an adolescent...
Interesting historical perspective and classic Hemingway writing. I never cared about the characters in the story, which is often a detractor for me, but not in this case. The story here is larger than the characters, and that's how I read it. ...more

I feel like I should love Hemingway, but unfortunately I just don’t. His dialog is so redundant. Could anyone have written a more boring love affair, or created a female character with less depth? Being a visual person, it is hard for me to endure this minimalist writing style. Perhaps I will try some of his later work; maybe I will be able to have more of an appreciation for that.
