Gaskell certainly has her own style. I love her witty and elegant writing. Some of the characters developed more than others (for example Mrs. Gibson which I came to like way more towards the end) while Molly was pretty much the same in the beginning and the end. I knew before reading the book that Gaskell had passed away right before finishing it, but I didn't think it would bother me so much when I finished the last chapter and the real ending wasn't there.
