Started the book with great hopes , but found it too boring . Then as per the advice of a couple of friends , switched to the audio version and it was better . The story of a young lady torn between two lovers of opposing characters amidst the oppressive higher class British society of the late 19th or perhaps early 20th century.

I am aware there are those who find this novel dry and dull, and I understand where many of them are coming from: we've read this story of English love; we've read it many a time. But here's the thing: actually we haven't.

This was also part of my trip to Italy reading list being set in Florence. Loved the irony and the stabs at British formality and manners. Found Lucy to be very likeable and it was easy to see her struggle with the expectations of the times and her own need to defy those in a way that was commensurate with her background/upbringing.
