Shelves: paperback-hardback, classic, buddy-group-reads

Was sorely disappointed as I had great hopes for this book which has been mentioned by many of my favorite authors. At half way through was convinced that this is not my kind of book, but kept on reading as it was quite a short book and moreover, I was reading it with a group of people and was eager to know their opinions. Gatsby, is by no means great, he's just a poor man who got rich after falling in !love with a rich girl, who married another of her kind (I am talking about daisy and Tom here ...more

The sad story of a boy, his love and an illusion.

I don’t really know how to feel at the end of this book. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and halfway through, I was kinda disappointed.
Until the confrontation in New York. I think I expected it to be a novel of excited actions that at that moment I realized was more of a “wise” novel.
It broaches the subject of the illusion, created by society, that money could buy you happiness during “The Roaring Twenties” (that actually still runs true ...more
