What Members Thought

I read it in high school and had clear recollections of the book, which is a good indication that it had something to offer since much of high school literature is a blur. The story is a powerful indictment of the shallowness of the upper class (set in the Jazz age, but probably no less true now), and it reads rather like a tragedy... I couldn't help pity Gatsby, who - for all his promise and ability - devoted a life to chasing an utterly unworthy dream.
