This is 1200 pages long and took me nearly four months to read but it was definitely worth the time. The characters are memorable, the language is brilliant, and the details of 19th-century European history are fascinating.

LOVED IT!!! I had been intimidated for too long by the length of the novel. Powerful novel of love/hate, justice/mercy, and loyalty/betrayal.

I love this story. The plot, character development, betrayal, romance, adventure, numerous good and evil twists make this an all-time favorite read. The good guy wins after a mighty struggle. The bad guy gets his just reward. Hard work, sacrifice, kindness, perseverance, forgiveness are all brought forth in a fascinating manner for our consideration and inspiration. Every child needs an encounter with this story.
