I sure do wish I could give this a 4.5.

I have greatly increased my forays into Russian literature in the past year and a half. I'm becoming so familiar with the didactic undertones of Russian work that I have to conclude that this is a 4.5 and not a 5 for me. It didn't do anything wrong, surely--The Idiot made me think, and it made me think often and on a number of levels. I enjoyed it a lot and finished it pretty quickly, considering its length. Well last year I decided that every winter I would try to read at least one classic of Russian literature. Last year I read the War and Peace and this year I decided to read the Idiot, and while the Idiot couldn't match the scale and quality of War and Peace it was a pretty good book nonetheless. It was a fairly long book at around 550 pages and it took me a few weeks to read it reading off and on and therefore was not an extremely difficult read but also wasn't what I would call an easy read ei ...more
