I echo several other reviews when I say that this book took me three months to read, but it was definitely worth it. I love Dickens' descriptions, and all the weird, hilarious minor characters he created. I disagree with most, however, in that I truly came to dislike Esther, the only character who speaks to us directly. Everyone seems to love her, but she got on my nerves. Don't hate me, friends. One of the best novels in English ever. Amusingly enough I was just reading Charlotte Bronte's Selected Letters and while she liked the opening Chancery section (dramatic!) she didn't like Summerson at all and considered her narration 'twaddle.' Heh.

What to say? Charles Dickens is, in my opinion, the greatest writer of all time. It is never an easy task to make it through his novels, but always so worth it!
Bleak House is full of the usual Dickens rich description and such tremendous and unforgettable characters! There are so many characters to keep straight, but all of them have a very necessary role and place in the novel.
