Well-written... definitely hooked me and moved me. The transitioning between two stories was very well carried out. I began to become a little disappointed once they merged into one... the storyline became less believable at this point (possibly because this is where the author transitioned from historical fiction to "realistic" fiction). I love a book that will open my eyes to things I didn't know about before. I'm asked why I would care to read about such things. Why remember such bad things that would cause pain and sadness? Well at the moment I'm not really sure why I've always been drawn to such stories and maybe I will never know...maybe I was one of them in another life. Who knows?
