This is the 4th year I've read it with my students and perhaps the year I've had the most vocal reactions to the book. They hate it....but in a Heathcliff-Cathy hate kind of way. (-: 5.14.2016
5.5.2018--> I didn't get to read the book last year but this year I am. As always, the kids are really enjoying. One kiddo tells me almost on a daily basis ,"I am really liking this book. Amir, Amir, Amir, for a while I thought I was reading/watching about Marcia, Marcia, Marcia from the Brady Bunch. This story was about Amir from start to finish not only because he is the Main character in the story line but literally it was ALL about him. I felt Amir would never step up to the plate and be a MAN worthy of Hassan's love or anyone from Hassan's lineage for that matter. Great story! This book starts off fast-paced and keeps the reader wanting to know "What's next?". I enjoyed reading this story because it shed light on a culture that I am not aware of and focuses on father-son relationships and the quest for forgiveness.

This book really made me think about karma, guilt, and redemption... Hosseini's introspective writing drew me in from the beginning, and I still cannot stop thinking about the ideas brought up in the book. Can't wait to read another book by him!
